    I began collecting Sunbeam Coffeemaster vacuum pots about 25 years ago. I have a couple of functional C20s, C30, C30A, C30B, C30C. The only real changes in the C30 is the molded bakelite rectangular opening around the kickdown switch. I have several in brand new mint condition even still have the shelf tags. I also have the stainless tray and cream/sugar set. I have my perfect display pieces, and some good solid users. I don't drink as much coffee as I used to though, so they just don't get the call of duty that often. I had a Bodum arty-farty plastic vacuum pot. Like most newer pots, it doesn't allow enough steep time. It died after making less than 50 pots of coffee. I also have the smaller version of it. KitchenAid came out with a vac pot a few years back. Again, steep time is almost nonexistent - it kicks down as soon as the upper bowl fills and if you want strong coffee you have to use about half a pound. I fixed that by using a tubing cutter to shorten the dip tube by about 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch. This keeps the lower pot from going dry so quickly so allows for 2-3 minutes of steep time. That one still works well. The C50 I'm not a fan of - the tick-tock type kickdown switch... well, it has a very bad habit of kicking back UP when you just lift the pot to pour. I had the bottom pot boil away on me - what a mess! So I have the C50 in the collection, but I don't use it. I don't like the cloth filters - I have some of the rubber-rimmed fine mesh stainless filters that I prefer. I've had several of my C30 bottoms just quit, and I retired them. The cool thing about the KitchenAid glass pot, the C30 with the glass top bowl (WW2 era), and even the Bodum Santos glass pot that you have to supply your own heat, is that you can watch the action. Very cool. I had enough functional C30 series pots to give away some as gifts to family members, but not sure if they get any regular usage. They are a pain to clean. The KitchenAid is an exceptional pain to clean due to the shape and size of the bottom pot opening. A company for a time was selling new replacement seals for the C30s. I've had some nice ones where the rubber was simply to hard to get the thing together... or apart. So handy to have the replacements. I am not sure where I stashed them but I have them somewhere....

  • @volectar983
    @volectar983 Месяц назад

    By the way, there is an altitude/brew time adjustment if you open the bottom plate of the C30. We are at 1 mile altitude in the foothills of the Rockies. This made a big difference for us; most brew systems don't have such an adjustment available.

  • @volectar983
    @volectar983 Месяц назад

    We love our C30C, and have been using it for over a decade. They are not steel, they are chromed solid copper. (Test with a magnet to verify.) Yours needs a new rubber seal, which were available when we needed one a few years ago - it will be much easier to separate and join the bubbles with newer rubber in between. We get roasted African coffee beans from Montana Coffee Traders, and hand grind in my grandfather's wall mounted grinder... the coffee is true luxury.

    Before watching this video today 7.2.2024, I bought some Pete's dark roast Major. Dickason's blend. Although I roast my own coffee at home, I still buy brand names I have liked in the past. I get tired of my own coffee. I have been drinking Pete's for over a year. I tend to like dark roast over med or light. Pete's is some good coffee from the grocer store. So is Blue Bottle Bold.

    I always assumed I should wait to add the coffee until the top was full, but I’ll have to give this a try. Would love to see an update video if there has been any further optimization in your method over the years.

    Ok, I think I'll have to try both. I have a cone drip maker with paper filters for three years now. I was thinking to buy another one of a bigger size, and since there is a difference in taste, I'll order a flat drip c-maker. And another 500 paper filters pack :)

    Man, that copper coloured lever machine in the background is a killer. Call me vain...😂 About date, I think best use by is no more than 1 month since roast date. Once I bought a batch, 10 packs of 250 grams fresh roasted coffee from local roastery. These are all for my consumption. I noticed there is definite degradation once I got past 1 month. There is a sense of staleness much like old used cooking oil.

    You bring up a good point about dates on the coffee package. Some companies put the roast date, but many put only best by date!! I tend to get only the coffees that have a roast date as I don't trust the bags that only have best by dates. Maybe I'm missing some good coffees? Maybe a discussion on what nitrogen flush is and how long the coffee will last if packaged correctly might be in order!

    Ethiopia The origin of coffee

  • @LorenzoNW
    @LorenzoNW 3 месяца назад

    I’m no coffee connoisseur by any means. My limited understand is that African coffees in general tend to be more fruity, winey, acidic, and lighter body while Latin American coffees in general tend to be fuller bodied with more chocolatey, nutty notes (which is what I prefer). I’m wondering if there’s an African or any other coffee you can recommend that would closer to my preferences. Thanks

    • @Coffeeists
      @Coffeeists 3 месяца назад

      Dear LorenzoNW, As you probably know, Brazilian coffees (the standard natural process) are most likely to be chocolaty and nutty. For Africa, you could try Rwanda. Let me know whether that works, and thanks for your interest. Ken
